Who I am...
Hi, I'm Jeff Hinke. I'm currently 66 years young.
Who we are...
Rose Cottage Guitars was born in my love of life-long music and woodworking. The process of taking a board, or several, working them by hand and machine, to create a set of parts that can be combined to create musical stringed instruments with exceptional playability and tonal quality, is joyful for me. I'm blessed to be able to spend my post-working life making guitars and ukuleles. I work to your order with the objective of a perfect guitar or ukulele that I will be proud of and you will be thrilled to own. We're a small, low volume builder, interested in YOU and your Rose Cottage Guitar or Ukulele.
Where I Studied...
I graduated from high school in 1972, then obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1976. Woodworking has been in my life since Jr. High School, and so, since 2005, I've been taking classes in the Cabinet and Furniture Technology Department at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA., with the last 9 years focused in Guitar Making Techology program.
What I Have Done Professionally...
After college, I worked for Motorola Communications (now known as Motorola Solutions), Oak Communications, Inc., and SAIC as a RF Design Engineer, During my time at SAIC I transitioned to System Engineering. After a corporate spinoff of SAIC and Leidos, Inc., I remained with Leidos in a System Engineering capacity until I retired in September of 2014.
What I Do...
I am active in our church, mostly in a musical capacity, singing in choir, playing guitar in the praise band, etc. I continue my studies in the CFT department at Palomar, taking classes related to the construction of stringed instruments. It is what I enjoy! I have acquired enough tools over the years to support my habit!
What Else is There to Know...?
I dunno! I guess That's All, Folks!
